About Listening Post
What
- Listening Post is a counselling service for people in Gloucestershire.
- Many people go through a time when they unable to resolve their difficulties themselves.
- Sharing concerns with a counsellor can help to get them into perspective and enable a person to work towards a solution that they find acceptable.
- All Listening Post counsellors have trained for at least two years on a nationally recognised course.
- Training is on-going and all counsellors are regularly supervised by experienced, trained supervisors.
Who
- Listening Post offers counselling to people over the age of eighteen, irrespective of gender, sexual orientation, religion or ethnic origin.
Where
- Listening Post has counselling centres in Stroud, Gloucester and Cheltenham at the addresses under the "Finding Listening Post" link.
How
- Anyone seeking counselling can telephone Gloucester, Cheltenham or Stroud (numbers given under the "Finding Listening Post" link) during the times stated.
- A trained receptionist will take brief details and offer an initial assessment appointment with an experienced counsellor.
- If the person decides to attend regular counselling sessions a counsellor will make contact in a few weeks.
Costs
- Listening Post's funding is based on donations and we make no fixed charge for counselling. We expect a realistic contribution from those who can afford it, and discuss this at the initial assessment.
- We will not refuse to help anyone because they are unable to make a contribution.
Funding
- Listening Post is a Registered Charity and depends on voluntary contributions. We invite individuals and churches to join with us in our work, as explained below.
- While most of our work is done by trained volunteers, we do need a regular income to pay for salaries, rent, heat, light and administration costs.
Support
- Listening Post is supported by people becoming 'Friends', and by Churches becoming 'Corporate Members' and giving an annual donation. Forms for membership, and for Standing Orders and Gift Aid are available from Listening Post offices or can be printed directly from this website.
- We welcome prayer support from individuals and from Churches.
- We welcome support from volunteers at all our centres as receptionists, fundraisers etc.

- Listening Post runs counselling courses which meet nationally recognised standards. Credits are currently awarded by the Open College Network.
- We hold seminars throughout the year on a wide range of counselling topics.
